Symptom

ungrib.exe/geogrid.exe/metgrid.exe will not start, reporting missing libjasper.so.4, even though jasper is installed via conda.

Context

WRF/WPS manually compiled from source on Linux, conda environment provides a newer jasper 4.x version

Root cause

WRF was compiled against a manually built jasper 2.0.33 which provides libjasper.so.4, but conda environment provides jasper 4.x which ships libjasper.so.7. LD_LIBRARY_PATH loads the wrong major version at runtime.

Solutions

1. prioritize-old-jasper-lib · no feedback yet · rev 1

  1. Locate directory containing libjasper.so.4 (usually tools/jasper/lib)
  2. Export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=<jasper-old-lib-dir>:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH before running any WPS/WRF executable
  3. Verify no 'not found' entries remain with ldd ./ungrib.exe

Verify:

ldd ./ungrib.exe | grep 'not found'

Lint diagnostics: missing_env, creates_files
