Symptom

Compilation succeeds, but at runtime a class calls a method that does not exist in the loaded version.

Context

Two dependencies pull different versions of the same library; the older one wins through nearest-wins or a dependencyManagement entry.

Root cause

Maven resolved one version for compilation and a different, older version at runtime, or a shaded jar bundles an outdated copy.

Solutions

1. default · no feedback yet · rev 1

  1. Show the resolved tree: mvn dependency:tree -Dincludes=com.example:*.
  2. Pin one version in <dependencyManagement> and re-run the build.
  3. Exclude the transitive copy from the dependency that drags it in.

Verify:

mvn dependency:tree -Dincludes=com.example:client && mvn -q test

Expected: exactly one version in the tree and tests pass

Lint diagnostics: missing_env, creates_files
