Symptom

go build stops on a local variable that the code appears to use in a later branch.

Context

Refactors, debug prints, or a variable only assigned inside a closure.

Root cause

Go rejects unused local variables. Assignment is not use, and a variable used only in a closure that is never called still counts as unused in older toolchains.

  1. Use the value, or remove the declaration.
  2. During debugging, replace the variable with _ = x only temporarily.
  3. If the value matters, log it or return it instead of assigning and dropping it.

Verify:

go build ./...

Expected: exit code 0

Lint diagnostics: missing_env, verify_target_not_in_fix
